5 Important Things You Should Know Before Choosing an Ultrasound Facility……

  1. Price Isn’t Everything. In This Industry, You Get What You Pay For!!
Choosing your ultrasound provider based on price alone will almost guarantee that your experience will not be what you dreamed it would be. There are several important factors that far outweigh a “discount” ultrasound package. The most rewarding 3D/4D ultrasound experience will be the combination of a comfortable and inviting facility, the finest equipment, and a professional, courteous staff whose primary focus is on you, your guest, your experience, and (of course) the safety of your baby. Invest Wisely...3D/4D imaging facilities are not created equally!

  2. Ask For Proof That the Technician Performing Your Scan Is A CERTIFIED Sonographer!
Did you know that just any “average Joe” can open a non-diagnostic 3D/4D ultrasound facility? The knowledge and skills that a certified sonographer achieves upon attending an accredited ultrasound program is necessary to assure that all preventative measures are taken to carry out an ultrasound examination with minimal exposure….not to mention the in-depth knowledge of ultrasound physics required to make an image as clear as possible with the most desired resolution. Although there may be plenty of entertaining aspects to a 3D/4D ultrasound, safety, professionalism and expertise should always remain paramount when choosing your elective imaging provider. It is important to understand who you are placing your trust in—After all, you don’t want just anybody doing your ultrasound!

  3. It’s Quality, Not Quantity.
A certified ultrasonographer is able to obtain the best image possible while still following strict guidelines and limits set to achieve minimal exposure in less time. Prudent practice of a trained sonographer involves the application of the ALARA principle. ("As Low as Reasonably Achievable"). Ultrasound should not be used indiscriminately. Although studies have revealed no known risk associated with the use of ultrasound (when operated by trained personnel), we must be open to the possibility that unrecognized risk may exist. In the meantime, a conservative approach to ultrasound imaging should be used with minimum exposure of the patient and fetus.

  4. Ask What Type Of Ultrasound Equipment the Facility Uses…..
When it comes to ultrasound machines, make sure your center uses the GE Voluson series.  Many facilities claim to use “state-of-the-art” equipment, when in reality they are using inexpensive machines with inferior technology and software.  If you choose a provider that does not use the GE technology you will be choosing a lower quality ultrasound image. Believe it or not, the bed/chair being used for ultrasound scans can compromise the quality of your pictures as well. An electronic adjustable exam bed should be used at all times to guarantee the sonographer can position the mother whichever way needed to see the babies face no matter which way that he/she is facing. Some place’s use recliners which can be quite comfy but can put limitations on the chance of most desirable images. Recliners were made for living rooms, and exam chairs were made for exam rooms.
